The book was recommended to me as a thought provoking and disturbing read. Which was true. There were times when I was almost annoyed by the thoughts of the main character, then again his thoughts were also very familiar to some extent... So all in all, yes, a very interesting book. The parental aspect: How far would we go to protect our children? And then the cultural aspects: particularism versus universialism. And the ethical aspect: Are all humans equal?I will suggest it for a book club.

Amazing how sympathy starts to become pitty, then pitty becomes hate. I couldn' t stop reading. You will love this book.

A very powerful description of the "ordinary" human being and how it reacts when it sees or perceives its offspring threatened. One whole book to describe just one dinner (and some background), intense, thought provoking and also sinister. You wonder if the simple man and woman in the street would really be capable of acting in such a way. Or worse, would you?

Keine leichte Kost.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. Although at times the procession of events seems a bit disjointed it is extremely engaging.
