Grow Your Own Vegetables Reviews
Initially, I wanted to type a couple of words on what an addictive read this book is and how outstandingly well it is written. Now, with permission I rather choose to tell You the story of my wife recently complaining to me that I take this book almost everywhere I am going instead of leaving it on the living room coffee table for her to read, too. This book now is the first one in our household ever to carry two bookmarks at the same time...
Knowing that food farmed by yourself is always tastier and not to forget cheaper and healthier! Nowadays with all the food scandals, you'd better start farming yourself.
The previous reviewer who gave this one star because they were looking for info for alkaline soils should have their soil tested through their county extension service and amend their soil appropriately making the issue mute. This is a fantastic book full of information and techniques which result in a comprehensive "go to" reference which is far more thorough than most American vegetable gardening books. I've been gardening all my life, spend a lot of time seeking information online but always appreciate comprehensive references for my personal library. I highly recommend this book for it's content and credibility.
I found the book really easy to read and to consult on the different vegetbles. It really covers everything, I particularly loved the section on making compost like 'Black Jack' Liquid Manure. Great ideas everyone can use, like using nettles and comfrey for manure. The book is so detailed but yet not over the top. It tells you how to plant then manage the veg then harvesting. For me it is the only book I will need to grow my own veg. Thank you Joy Larkcom
I hope you enjoy my video review of this book.Mark Abbott-Compton
When searching Google for vegetables that grow in alkaline soil, Amazon came up with this book. So I purchased it, it was a big disappointment. Firstly, it was from England, and there was just one small paragraph in the whole book about alkaline soils. I have learned alot through this purchase.
